EAA Chapter 12 Young Eagles in Houston, Texas.

The Experimental Aircraft Association and its network of chapters nationwide conduct Young Eagles Flight Rallies as a way to expose teen and late pre-teen children to aviation as a potential hobby or future vocation. As with any activity or trade, new members and fresh faces are vital to continued existence.

Not too long ago, a major milestone was reached: Over one million Young Eagles flown, in nearly 500,000 flights, all by volunteer pilots in volunteer provided aircraft.

Participants must be aged 8 to 17, and it is preferrable from a safety standpoint that they be able to enter and exit the airplane without assistance (other than spoken instructions from pilots/crew)

Chapter 12 has joined resources with the Collings Foundation - West in hosting Aviation Day Camps at Ellington Field, Houston, Texas. The Aviation Day Camp model centers on providing aviation indoctrination that satisfies requirements for the Boy Scouts of America's Aviation Merit Badge requirement. Included in this an introduction to the theory of flight and  tours of various privately owned aircraft on field. The capstone experience is a Young Eagle's introductory flight conducted by volunteer pilots under the direction of Chapter 12's Young Eagles Coordinator. Instructors are credentialed as merit badge counselors by the Boy Scouts of America.

Upcoming Young Eagles Events

Information for Prospective Pilots:

We need eligible volunteer pilots to make these events a success. Contact David Staten or Don Daniels if you are able to assist us with the upcoming svent. The requirements for flying as a Young Eagles Pilot are as follows:

·                     Appropriate Airmen's Certificate (Sport Pilot or higher)

·                     Current Medical Certificate (if applicable)

·                     Provide an airworthy aircraft you want to fly.

·                     EAA National Membership

·                     90-day currency in aircraft used

·                     Current Flight Review

·                     Aircraft Passenger Liability Insurance for aircraft used (owned, rental or borrowed).

As an added EAA member benefit, members are provided an additional $1 million passenger liability policy, if they carry at least $100,000 per seat liability insurance. This coverage is in place automatically, no additional forms are required.

If you meet these requirements, then you are ready to fly Young Eagles! Notice that chapter membership is not required. While we would love to have you as a member of EAA 12, if you are only a National EAA member, you can still be a part of Chapter 12’s Young Eagles Endeavor
