EAA B-17G "Aluminum Overcast" 2006 Tour - Houston, TX

B-17 - Aluminum OvercastThe EAA B-17 Tour is coming back to the Houston area on October 23-26th of 2006. EAA Chapter 12 is once again hosting one of the few remaining airworth B-17 Flying Fortress Bombers in the world.

Aluminum Overcast is arriving on Monday and conducting set-up and media events. On Tuesday the 24th and Wednesday the 25th, the B-17 will be conducting B-17 Flight Experiences and will be open to the touring public between scheduled flights.  To schedule a ride, go to www.b17.org or Call 1.800.FLY.NB17 (1.800.359.6217). Keep in mind that advance ticket sales are cheaper than walkups for the B-17 Flight Experiences

Our local Aviation Colleagues, the Collings Foundation, will have many of their Vietnam era warbirds available for touring as well, and other local pilots have been invited to display their privately owned craft to the masses.

On Thursday, the aircraft will depart Houston for Georgetown, Texas (Austin area) for her  next stop. I have been told there is room for 6 chapter members or event workers to ride along for free, and a drawing will be held from a pool of those who work the event.

The last time we hosted the B-17, 4 chapter members were priveledged enough to ride to the next stop, in Oklahoma.. A ride none will soon forget.. the lucky riders were:

  • Jim Nordin
  • Jim Morris
  • Dean Doolittle
  • Chris Barber
Anyone desiring to staff the event please contact Chris Barber, Chapter 12 President.
